Good News!

We've been talking a lot about good news at church and it seems that everyone has some, which is it's own piece of good news. So here's mine...

Back in March, Elliott entered the John Lennon Songwriting Contest hoping to win some equipment for his new studio. The wait has been torture, but they announced the winners yesterday on the JLSC website and I didn't even remember until this morning. I thought, "I think the songwriting contest winners were going to be announce on the first of September. It's the second! Oh my gosh I need to check the site!" So this morning, at 6:15, I pulled up the site and went to the winners section. No Elliott. In the category for country, there was some other guy's name. I listened to the song. It was bluegrassy. I just sat there in shock. I really thought he could win. Then I noticed at the top, next to the grand prize winners it said Finalists. I clicked on it. There, in the row marked Country, was my husband's name and the song he entered, "Rusty Red Wagon." I think I may have squealed a little. I was so excited!

I ran into the bedroom where Elliott was still sleeping with a pillow on his head and I gently touched him. I said, "Honey, remember the songwriting contest you entered? Well, you didn't win the grand prize but you were a finalist!" The reason I said that about the grand prize was because I didn't want to say, "You won!" and then have him think he won the whole thing. He lifted the pillow and cleared his throat a little before asking, "I didn't win the grand prize?"

I said, "You won the finalist prize so you still get some stuff and your name and song are up on the site!" He asked, "What did the grand prize winner get?" I said, "I don't really know but I'm so proud of you!" He said "Thanks" and put the pillow back on his head.

I don't care that he didn't win the grand prize. His songs aren't really that country anyway, and the grand prize winner's song was really country, so I'm surprised he was even a finalist. It's hard to categorize my husband's music. They must've really liked it.

And in case you're wondering, his prize package consists of a $100 gift certificate to MusiciansFriend.com, an ipod shuffle and songwriting notation software called Sibelius 4.

So there's my good news for today. I'm so proud of my husband for chasing his dreams. He's doing exactly what he's supposed to be doing and he's really good at it! Congratulations, honey!

I too am proud of you husband. He is so talented and blessed to be doing what he is supposed to be doing. But one better than that, he has a fantastic wife who loves and believes in him. So in my eyes he is the grand prize winner. You just can't get anything better than that.

Pam, what an awesome testimony of your love and excitement for Elliot!

I agree, he is one of the most talented men I know, and a guy I just love!

I could sit and listen to elliot talk and sin all day, about anything. He is just one of those guys, but to have a wife who is so uplifting, and encouraging in those situations is especially awesome!

I know, because I have one, and I am a blessed man!

Right now I have Elliott playing in my iPod!

He is so talented. You know he made me cry last week! He sent me the song that he wrote called Bottle of Tears. It meant so much to me!

I love both of you very much!

Go Elliott!
