William Morris Thursday - a little progress

Last week, I was decidedly absent from Jules' William Morris project. After all, who wants to read a post about everything I thought about doing? Every time I walked into a room, I was bombarded with thoughts of what I want to get rid of and what I want to keep. Then, because of (insert excuse here) I didn't actually do anything. This week I have a few piles to show for all of last week's thinking. It's not much to look at, but it's what I've got.

This is the back of my car. It's filled with Goodwill stuff, recyclables, plastic grocery bags and things that need to go to other people's houses. It's now empty! Next to that, on the ground, is a bag of things that didn't belong in the car and a bag of trash I collected from the inside. Most of it was what I like to call "van mix" from the floor boards. ((shudder)) The stuff that came in the house was a mixture of clothes, coats, dishes, mail, hair accessories and coloring stuff. It's all back where it belongs now. Ah, feels good, doesn't it?

This is my purse. It's a jungle in there. It's gotten so bad that I've stopped carrying into places because I've realized how useless it is.

It's like a big leather filing cabinet with some makeup and random toys and pens thrown in.

I dumped it out on the floor and as if it were some kind of bait, within minutes my oldest daughter showed up to go through it. And she's not even my organized one. (She just wanted to get out of doing her reading.) Regardless, my purse is much lighter today because of it. Thanks, Anna!

Today, a dear (x100) friend of mine is coming over to help me with whatever project I want to work on. She's kind of my mentor/other mother and she 'gets' where I'm going, what it will take to get there and what's standing in my way, so she's offered her services once every couple of weeks. Did I tell you how much I love her? When she called earlier this week, wanting to know if I had come up with a project, I was ready. I'll be spending a good part of today cleaning out the closet in my laundry room and getting rid of all those things that, if I were by myself, I would stare at for an ungodly amount of time and then set aside for later. Just in case. I can't wait to see what we get done. I'll share all the details next week.

Have you made any progress toward beauty or usefulness this week? Link up here and share!

Popping over from WMP - hi there! Don't underestimate yourself, that pile in the back of your car is GREAT progress!! Every bag is something that isn't going back in your house and can be used by someone else - well done! Looking forward to seeing your laundry room progress. How nice to have a friend to help you!

Oh, my gosh! It sounds like you have a fairy godmother! That is great thinking...taking on a partner. Definitely adds to the accountability.

Thanks, @Carrie and @May! My friend has been trying to come help me since last year, but for some reason I haven't made it happen. I'm excited to see how motivated I'll feel after this project. She's probably gonna wonder what she's gotten herself into! ;)

I want a friend like that! Walking through rooms and being overwhelmed with all there is to do is like a sport for me. I'm really good at it. I think the van full of goodwill items is a huge step! My goodwill bags are just piling up in the garage and getting lost in the corners. Good luck on whichever project you choose today!

I swear, your van could be my van, and your purse could be my purse. Once you unload four or five hungry, squabbling kids from the after-school carpool, who wants to run around picking up the stuff you've all left behind? Good for you for actually putting it all away--too often I collect it and then THAT bag sits in the garage for several months!

My purse is exactly the same. It's a dark, cool place where receipts, tickets and wrappers go to breed.

Have a good time with your friend!

I think the picture of all those bags in the back of your car is great. Hauling stuff away is the best. So cool that you found someone to help you to purge. Looking forward to see what you accomplish.

That is one impressive haul! Totally something to be proud of doing. As others have stated, what a great friend to have too. It is so cool to have a friend who can help lighten your load, see the things that you're overwhelmed by. Looking forward to seeing what you two accomplish together!

Thanks everyone! It felt so good to drive that stuff away from my house! Oh, and having a friend over today was amazing! We got so much done. I highly recommend it!

Wow, that is a lot of stuff from the car, I remember those days...but now with kids all grown up...all the mess is mine! Good luck on the cleaning out!!

Thanks! I'm not too anxious for my kids to be grown, but I can't wait until mine and my husband's messes are all I have!

Ugh. Cars. I ALMOST did my car, but it's just too depressing. Good for you!! (Oh, brave one.)

Thanks for stopping by, Jules! I usually have to clean out my car at the urging of my 13 yr old son. Can you believe I gave birth to a child that gets annoyed at my messiness?!? Must be a neat-freak somewhere in my family tree.
